Patriot Day 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Truist Park
ATLANTA, Ga. – The Atlanta Braves and the Atlanta Braves Foundation hosted the annual Patriot Day 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Truist Park on Saturday, September 5th. The event was the largest in the five years that it’s been hosted at Truist Park. Over 1000 people climbed the stairs of the ballpark’s seating bowl to honor and remember the lives of first responders and individuals impacted by the attacks, many wearing lanyards with names and photos of those who lost their lives that day. Participants climbed over 2,000 steps, symbolizing the 110 flights of stairs the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) firefighters took to ascend the World Trade Center in their search and rescue efforts on 9/11.
Opening Ceremonies included a color guard presentation of the flags, National Anthem performance by Chief Ben Holley of the local Cobb County Fire Department, an invocation by Captain Dave Gentile from the Cobb County Fire Department, and remarks from representatives of the FDNY and firefighters from the UK who traveled to Atlanta to join the climb. There was a moment of silence dedicated to the lives lost and impacted on 9/11 at the time of the first plane’s impact and a symbolic “missing man” formation flyover, courtesy of Airbase Georgia and the Commemorative Air Force, at the time that the second plane hit the World Trade Center. All proceeds will benefit The Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund of Georgia to support first responders in need and their families across Georgia.
