Registration for Lifesaving Swim Lessons in Albany Saturday
ALBANY, Ga. – As temperatures start to rise, there’s a great way for kids to stay cool and safe this summer. The Swim for Life program in Albany, GA, is a major community initiative aimed at preventing drownings and teaching children water safety.
The program provides children with free swimming lessons through local partnerships, including the YMCA, Boys & Girls Clubs, and Albany State University.
Registration for the Swim for Life program kicks off at the Albany State University West Campus May 30th at 10 a.m., and kids of all ages 6 months old and up can sign up for free swimming lessons. There will be music, water slides, cool treats, face painting, and more.
The program was started by Dougherty County Coroner Michael L. Fowler to ensure that no child drowns because they don’t know how to swim. There will even be special instruction available for autistic children this year. Once registered, lessons begin the following week at the Albany Boys and Girls Club, Albany Recreation Department, or the YMCA.
The Swim for Life program is free to all who attend, but providing these life-saving lessons comes at a cost. For $20, a donor can sponsor a child and help make these lessons available to all who need them. Interested parties can mail donations to: Michael Fowler – Swim For Life, P.O. Box 5332 Albany, GA 31702. Make checks payable to: Swim For Life. Electronic donations are also welcome and can be made by scanning the QR code on the poster accompanying this article.
