GDOT: Lowndes Co.: SR 7 Business traffic moving to new Five Points Roundabout
LOWNDES Co., Ga. – What: State Route 7 Business traffic is scheduled to move to the new roundabout in front of Winn Dixie in the Five Points area of Valdosta. This is the first of two roundabouts to open. Traffic coming from Valdosta will also be shifted onto the new alignment but will still have a traffic signal. The intersection will remain signalized for traffic coming from Valdosta until construction is complete on the second Five Points roundabout.
Next week the contractor will be removing existing lane lines and traffic markings, with deputies helping traffic move safely through the intersection until restriping is complete. Motorists are asked to slow down and watch for equipment and personnel as work continues. The contractor still has to build the apron and grade the center of the roundabout. The apron encircles the central island of the roundabout and accommodates the wheel tracking of long or oversized vehicles. The back wheels of larger vehicles can ride up on the 12-foot truck apron to easily complete the turn.
Where: SR 7 Bu in front of Winn Dixie in the Five Points area of Valdosta.
When: The contractor will begin removing lane lines and traffic markings beginning around 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24.
