Valdosta Police arrests wanted man out of North Caroline after grocery store domestic dispute
VALDOSTA, Ga. – On December 12, 2025, at 3 p.m., citizens called E911 to report a dispute in the parking lot of a grocery store in the 1400 block of North Lee Street. When Valdosta Police Officers arrived, they contacted a male, later identified as Joshua Walter Vashawn Bellamy, 27, and a female. Witnesses told officers that they observed Bellamy and the female in an altercation.
As officers investigated the incident, Bellamy was evasive and provided them with a false name and date of birth. When officers determined that Bellamy had given them false information, they took him into custody without incident.
Further investigation revealed that Bellamy had an active arrest warrant from the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina for attempted first-degree murder. After officers confirmed that the arrest warrant was still active in North Carolina, Bellamy was taken to the Lowndes County Jail.
Bellamy received additional charges for fugitive from justice (felony) and giving false information to law enforcement officers (misdemeanor).
“I am proud of our officers who encountered an individual who attempted to conceal his identity by providing false information. Their persistence and diligence led to the positive identification and arrest of a suspect wanted for a violent crime in another state, who thought he could hide in our community.” Said Chief Leslie Manahan.
