(LKL) “PLEASE TAKE MY PHONE”: SCHOOL PHONE BANS SHOWS PROMISE
This fall New York became the latest state to implement a new “bell-to-bell” ban on cell phones for students. One month into the school year, the move is being hailed as a success by teachers, parents, and students alike. Teachers say they’re already seeing the benefits in the classroom and noticing a difference when they walk the hallways. “I was at my daughter’s public school the other day, and 3 of the 5 teachers unprompted, brought up that the hallways are louder than ever because the kids are laughing because they’re hanging out and talking. They’re not staring at their screens,” says Raj Goyle, the founder and chair of Phone Free New York. While Goyle admits there have been some growing pains, he says the positives outweigh any negatives and encourages other states to get phones out of kids hands too. “If you can do it in New York, you can do it anywhere.” Correspondent Leigh Waldman has all the details in a 3pET PKG with FREE custom live shots from New York City.
