September is National Sickle Cell Awareness Month. It’s an inherited disease where red blood cells become abnormally shaped, which can affect blood flow through the body. Patients who have this disease depend on blood transfusions for life-saving relief and the American Red Cross says a new trend is strengthening the blood supply for these patients. In today’s Health Minute, Mandy Gaither talks to a woman who lives with sickle cell disease about why this trend is critical for her survival.
