South Georgia Weather Authority Forecast: August 18, 2025

Seasonably hot & drier conditions next few days.  Wetter & cooler end of the week into this weekend.

In the tropics, Hurricane Erin underwent rapid intensification over the weekend to Category 5 status while producing flash flooding and and gusty winds over Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands. Erin has restrengthened to a Category 4 near the Turks and Caicos Islands and SE Bahamas. A northerly motion is expected with a track in between the U.S. East Coast and Bermuda. While Erin gradually weakens, the wind field will expand with increasing radius of tropical storm-force winds as massive waves (10′-15′ near the coast, 50’+ offshore) propagate from the storm. Hazardous beach conditions including dangerous and life-threatening rip currents and some beach erosion is possible. Erin will accelerate as the upper level westerlies will push it out to sea. A new tropical wave at lower latitudes over the eastern Atlantic is passing SW of the Cabo Verde Islands. It has a medium chance of tropical development as it approaches the Leeward Islands later this week.
