54th annual 18 Meter National Glider Racing Contest takes flight at Crisp County Airport June 2nd

CORDELE, Ga. – The skies above Crisp County are set to come alive as the 54th annual Glider Racing season takes flight at the Cordele airport.

From June 2nd through the 11th, the community will host two prestigious competitions… The Region 5 South Contest and the 18-Meter National Contest. Pilots from across the nation will navigate challenging courses over our flat, agricultural landscapes, renowned for ideal soaring conditions.

Practice days are scheduled for May 31st and June 1st, with races commencing on June 2nd. Spectators can witness the thrill of sailplanes racing without engines, relying solely on thermal currents to glide through the air.
