Crisp Co. 4-H & FFA exhibitors compete in annual Junior Livestock Show
CORDELE, Ga. – Plenty of young Crisp County farmers got to show off their hard work as part of an annual tradition.
CBS 44’s Brian Roche has more.
Plenty of people are getting a chance to ‘Meet their Meat’ as part of Crisp County’s annual Junior Livestock Show as many of these young exhibitioners are displaying the animals they helped to raise.
This is seven year old, Kori Bullington, who got to demonstrate the pigs and cows she’s been raising as part of the Pre-Club group for the annual Farm Bureau Livestock Show.
“…100 percent. I like it, alot,” said Kori Bullington, Pre-Club Exhibitor.
Young Kori is just one of many students in crisp county who got to show off their hard work in raising the perfect livestock to be sold.
Organizer, Jesse Kelly tells us having a show like this really gives people a good idea of where their food comes from.
“Agricultural literacy is very important. We live in a society where, you know, less than 1% of our population is involved in production, agriculture. Therefore, we’re all far removed from production agriculture. And the earlier that we can start kids to understand where their food comes from, their fiber and meat, then the earlier they can understand that how important agriculture is to our society and the ag industry, to our state’s economy,” said Jesse Kelly, Organizer.
And, as these young exhibitors got to show off their best livestock…
Plenty of farmers and agricultural teachers in Crisp County are hoping to expand their capabilities for them.
“And, we’re hoping that in the next couple of years we build a (Crisp Co. School) system, ag facilities, so that we can expand those opportunities for those children so that they can have the opportunity to keep livestock and have the opportunities to show livestock and understand the livestock production process even better,” said Tara Peavy-Shirley, Organizer.
With this year’s show wrapping up, many in the agricultural community in Crisp County are looking forward to next March when young exhibitors like Kori get a chance to show off their hard work once again.
