Crisp Co. 4-H & FFA exhibitors participate in annual Junior Livestock Show

CORDELE, Ga. – Staying in Crisp County, some of the county’s best and brightest young 4-H and FFA exhibitors took part in the annual Crisp County Junior Livestock Show.

It’s a Crisp County tradition dating back over 40 years to show off the best livestock in the county.

Students from seven to eighteen years old showcased pigs and cattle they’ve been raising over the course of a year.

We got to speak with the organizers about getting kids involved in agriculture at an early age.

“Agricultural literacy is very important. We live in a society where, you know, less than 1% of our population is involved in production, agriculture. Therefore, we’re all far removed from production agriculture. And the earlier that we can start kids to understand where their food comes from, their fiber and meat, then the earlier they can understand that how important agriculture is to our society and the ag industry, to our state’s economy,” said Jesse Kelly, Show Organizer.

And… you can catch the full farm show with Brian Roche this Sunday at 1 p.m. on My 55 WSST.
