CBS 44 Weather Authority Forecast: January 9, 2025
Chilly rain arrives mainly Friday afternoon. Gulf low pressure system tracks a bit too far northward, with onset of precipitation it falls into a dry air mass causing it to evaporate before reaching the ground (virga), and a warm nose of air in the lowest layers of the atmosphere prevents SWGA from seeing any wintry precipitation. A few novelty sleet pellets may mix in or you may encounter a slick spot on area bridges or overpasses. Winter Storm results in hazardous conditions to portions of central and northern Georgia in the form of some snow and sleet, but it’s mainly freezing rain event (0.25″-0.50″ of ice accretion – unfortunately). Significant impacts including difficult to impossible travel and power outages are expected there . Below normal temperatures with near or subfreezing morning lows extend into next week.
