Re-elected city commissioners sworn-in
ALBANY, Ga. – All three re-elected city commissioners have officially been sworn in, entrusted by Dougherty county voters to serve another four-year term.
Among them is Ed Newsome, a native of Albany, who has represented District 1 as City Commissioner since 2021.
“Totally most appreciative to district one re-electing and to give me another four years to work with this group. And, I’m looking forward to a great year. Commissioner Johnson and I, we got a lot on our plate this year. We’ve got the initial building that’s got to be redone, and we’ve got the jail with some mechanical issues that we’ve faced this year. So, it’s going to be a packed year for us,” said Ed Newsome, District 1 City Commissioner.
Clinton Johnston, now elected to his fourth term, brings a proven track record to his role as District 3 City Commissioner.
During his tenure, he successfully secured over $1 million in funding for youth initiatives through grant proposals and strengthened strategic partnerships with more than 20 educational organizations.
“It feels really good to be elected again for another 4 years to serve Dougherty county. District three. Got a great group of commissioners here, and we intend to make our community a much better place to live,” said Clinton Johnson, District 3 City Commissioner.
Also in her 4th term is District 5 City Commissioner, Gloria Gaines.
Gaines is a proud Monroe High School graduate. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Albany State University and a Master’s Degree in Community Development from Georgia State University.
“Okay, so this is my fourth term being sworn in. So, I’m absolutely elated. I have tried my best over the years to serve the people of district five, and this community. This is where my heart is. This is where my umbilical is. I was born here. A fourth generation in this community. And, it’s close to my heart. So, I give a big thank you to the people of district five for their support over the years,” said Gloria Gaines, District 5 City Commissioner.
With a shared vision for growth and development, all three re-elected commissioners are committed to continuing their efforts to improve Dougherty county for years to come.
