GSW holds memorial remembrance ceremony for fallen officers Smarr & Smith
AMERICUS, Ga. – In other local news, Georgia Southwestern State University held a memorial service Saturday honoring Officers Nick Smarr and Jody Smith, who were tragically killed eight years ago while responding to a domestic violence call.
The suspect, known to both officers, fled through an alley. During the chase, he turned and shot both officers before escaping.
Officer Smarr died at the scene while trying to save his friend. Officer Smith passed away the next day in a Macon hospital.
