Among the honored guests was the long-serving representative for Georgia’s 2nd Congressional District, who has held office since 1993, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr.
“My reason for being in this job is to use the office to be a help office for the people in the communities in the second district. We want to use the political process, the legislative process to improve people’s lives and improve the lives of the folks in our communities,” said Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (D), U.S. House of Representatives, 2nd District.
Southwest Georgia residents gathered in Camilla for a chance to connect directly with their legislators.
The event allowed citizens to meet their representatives in-person, while legislators shared key accomplishments and future goals, offering insight into ongoing and upcoming initiatives for the region.
“I think about creating an environment through the policies and resources that we bring that will make our community attractive to industry. For example, we’ve got new industries all across our from Macon to Bainbridge. Even renewing some of our existing industries, like in Fort Valley. To provide jobs that pay well and that bring economic development, economic support to our local communities,” said Congressman Bishop.
Congressman Sanford Bishop thanked local communities for the honor of serving them over the years and shared his hope for continued support as he seeks re-election to represent Georgia’s 2nd District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Service is the rent we pay for, the space we occupy on this earth. And, this is my mission. It’s my ministry. I hope that they will agree that I’ve given good account for my stewardship and they’ll allow me to continue working for them in Washington because it is a joy and a love for me to do just that,” said Congressman Bishop.
