Early voting ends Friday as Election Day approaches
ALBANY, Ga. – Election Day is only a few days away, and the State of Georgia is in its last 24 hours of early voting, so people are flocking to places like the Albany Civic Center to cast their ballots.
People have been turning out in droves in this year’s elections.
Dougherty County Elections Supervisor, Ginger Nickerson says this year has been particularly busy.
“I wouldn’t say that. It’s some of the highest (voter turnout). I think, of course, thankfully people are coming out because it is 2024 and people are just deciding to come and vote in-person. We’re looking forward to a great Election Day, because generally our Election Day mirrors what happens during advanced voting. And, of course, we’re not in a pandemic anymore. So, Election Day should be very exciting as well,” said Ginger Nickerson, Supervisor, Dougherty Co. Board of Elections.
As of October 31st, more than 16,000 Dougherty County residents have cast their votes before the November 1st deadline…
Compared to 2020’s election where there were 13,000 votes cast across the entire early voting period.
Ginger even told us they’ve already received back a large portion of their mail-in ballots.
“We received a little over I think we processed a little over 1,600. We mailed out over 2,000. So, that’s what we’re at now with the returns,” said Nickerson.
And… while early voting is in its final hours, Ginger is asking for patience from those waiting in line.
“I think all of us are doing the best that we can to ensure that our voters do not wait. But, we know that there’s waiting in all aspects of life. And, so, we ask them to please be patient as long as the system and the equipment has been working, we haven’t had any malfunctions. So, we know that we are going to also try to expedite you through the line,” said Nickerson.
And… the Dougherty County Board of Elections is encouraging every last person who wants to cast their ballot early to get out on Friday.
Early voting in Georgia will officially close statewide at 5 p.m. on Friday.
