Meeting the Republican candidate; Ga. 2nd Congressional District race tightens up
ALBANY, Ga. – The race for the Second Congressional District in Georgia is heating up.
We’ve spoken with Incumbent U.S. Congressman Sanford Bishop, and CBS 44’s Brian Roche is meeting his challenger, Dr. Wayne Johnson.
Election day is just over a week away, and in Pelham, one local candidate is making a final push for a long held congressional seat.
We met Dr. Johnson this past Saturday as he was the focal point of the Second Congressional District’s 5th Republican Rally and Boil.
We had a chance to sit down with him and talk about why he wanted to run for the seat.
“The reason I’m running is because I give a damn. I care about what’s going on in Middle and Southwest Georgia. I know the power that a congressman can bring to bear when they do the duties of a congressman, but also how to work with the agencies to cause; whether it be the Department of Ag, the Department of Homeland Security,” said Dr. Wayne Johnson, Candidate (R), Ga. 2nd Congressional District.
In our interview with him, Dr. Johnson said a focus on Georgia agriculture is going to be one of his goals if elected.
“We’ve got to pass the Farm Bill. And we’ve got to have good reference prices in it. And, it’s got to have, you know, reference prices that are kept current. And, then, also, it’s crazy for us to be sending free tractors to Ukraine when our farmers down here need the equipment to work as well,” said Dr. Johnson.
And dr. Johnson has plenty of support going into election day from fellow Republicans.
Including former Georgia Senator, David Perdue.
“I’m here to make sure that everybody in Georgia puts away any concerns about the election and gets out and vote. Both sides should want a fair and transparent election, and that’s what we’re all working for on the republican side to make sure that everybody gets out and votes,” said David Perdue, former Senator (R).
With Election Day only a few days away, Dr. Johnson wanted to share one last message with the voters.
“The people of this district will absolutely, positively determine the course of our nation, certainly for the next two, probably four years,” said Dr. Johnson.
And, Johnson will be trying to unseat longtime Congressman, Sanford Bishop, who has held his seat for 32 years.
