ASU celebrates 2024 Homecoming this weekend
ALBANY, Ga. – Homecoming weekend for Albany State University (ASU) is finally here. And, we caught up with a few alumni about coming back together in the Good Life City.
City leaders took part in the festivities in welcoming back alumni to downtown Albany early Friday afternoon.
“Albany State University is something that all of us should be proud of. Proud to have everyone here in this city and in this community, that the education that they provided to many, many of the alumni. We just say welcome to Albany. Welcome back,” said Chief Cedric Scott, Albany Fire Dept.
For alumni coming back from near and far, they’re excited to be back among their fellow former students.
“It’s really exciting. It’s an exciting time for us all, for everybody to come back to this great community that has actually done so much for us. And, it’s just a wonderful time for us,” said Kimberly Griffin, ASU Alumni.
“Yes, we enjoy this. And, all this group activity is just. Absolutely wonderful for Albany State and for the city,” said Vincynthia Christian, ASU Alumni.
“Homecoming is definitely a time you get to see your colleagues again. It’s a commemorable moment where, you know, we’re celebrating not only our alumni, but we celebrate each other. And, it’s a very historical event for our university, and a historically black college,” said Erica Ellis, ASU Alumni.
“For me, it’s just seeing all my sorority sisters of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. And, seeing all the classmates and just having a great family reunion with those we haven’t seen in years,” said Kimberly Chambers, ASU Alumni.
And, with festivities rolling through the weekend, many alumni are happy to be back in town.
“We are both a part of the same sorority Zeta Phi Beta Sorority incorporated. So, this is a very big moment for us to get back together like a reunion. Like she said,” said Erica Ellis, ASU Alumni.
“It’s wonderful. I am so excited about all the things that are happening this weekend that are happening now. We’re having a wonderful time out at the street festival, and it is going to have a wonderful time tonight, and tomorrow. Come out and join us,” said Deborah Joseph, ASU Alumni.
As Homecoming reaches its peak, the fun is only getting started this weekend.
Albany State Homecoming festivities will continue Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with the annual Homecoming Parade in downtown Albany.
