Multi-Family Inspection Program Informational Session
ALBANY, Ga. – Local landlords met with the leadership of the Albany Fire Department Tuesday night to discuss a program to bring local residences up to code.
Fire department leadership held a session regarding inspections for multi-family buildings.
Assistant Chief, Marcus Glass tells us why they’re reaching out to local landlords.
“We’ve been working on this for over a year. It is a Multi-Family Inspection Program that is designed to make sure that tenants are living in great living conditions with minimum standards of code that’s being required to do inspections,” said Asst. Chief Marcus Glass, Albany Fire Dept.
The need to have this discussion came about as the fire department, and other agencies such as code enforcement saw living conditions were not up to standard.
“Our Fire Chief, Cedric Scott, felt and myself felt like it was time to make sure that we come together with different departments within the city, bring our codes together and get on the same team and make sure that these apartments are up to par,” said Asst. Chief Glass.
Landlords who participated in the discussion had their voices heard Tuesday…
And… as Asst. Chief Glass tells us, it goes a long way toward fostering a strong relationship between the landlords and the city.
“We wanted to invite the landlords out because we feel like we want to come alongside them, and make sure that they one: know about the program and know that this program is nothing against landlords, but it is a program that brings accountability but that also lets the tenants know that they care about the conditions that they’re living in,” said Asst. Chief Glass.
The fire department is hoping this will gain enough traction that they’ll have the support of local leadership too.
“All we want to say is this is a program that we’re going to present to the city if they have an appetite for it. We’re going to go with it. And, it’s going to be better for the City of Albany and Dougherty county,” said Asst. Chief Marcus Glass.
And… Asst. Chief Glass is encouraging landlords who couldn’t make it Tuesday evening to reach out to the fire department for more information.
