Town hall meeting on future of Bill Miller Community Center
ALBANY, Ga. – The City of Albany is looking for public feedback as they continue their planning for the revitalization of the Bill Miller Community Center.
Last November, Ward 1 Commissioner, Jon Howard led a walking tour for the area around the Bill Miller Community Center…
Now… they’re hoping for community feedback to get a plan in place.
“It’s going to cost over $4.2 million. And, we certainly want the citizens of this community, especially senior citizens come and do a buy-in and to see the drawing that would be available sometime next year. And it would be it would be nice to have a top of the line center here,” said Jon Howard, Ward 1 Commissioner, City of Albany.
For the city’s Recreation and Parks Department, they want to see the Bill Miller Community Center, which has been a fixture in east Albany for 50 years, get a much needed facelift.
But… they need that public feedback.
“So, understanding what the community needs are, we’ve done surveys, we do our own assessments, but to actually have buy-in from the community, it makes it very important because they feel there’s some type of investment in this community, in this community center. So, that’s what we’re looking for,” said Brianna Nixon, Deputy Dir. Rec & Parks, City of Albany.
It isn’t just about the exterior of the community center they’re asking for feedback on either.
“… As many people as possible from the community, from dougherty county, from Albany, be present during the meeting, because we’ll be asking for feedback. We’ll have a survey that’ll be available to take. So, we just want feedback from the community what they would like us to provide in the facility, what kind of programs they would like us to offer…” said Nixon.
“We may not know all the answers now, but in coming days we will get a solution to it and all. Because we’re in the stage that’s going to be designed by an architect, things of that nature,” said Commissioner Howard.
And… Commissioner Howard says if you live within two miles of the community center to make a point to come out Tuesday evening.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. tomorrow at the Bill Miller Community Center, located at 302 Vick Street in Albany. Everyone is welcome to attend.
