“Chicken and Cuts” men’s health awareness and PSA screening event
ALBANY, Ga. – The Phoebe Health System is partnering with a well known name in Georgia healthcare this Saturday to help provide health screenings to men in south Albany.
Organizer David Phennise is helping set up at Rhema International Ministries Friday as they’re going to be hosting a men’s health fair Saturday…
One they’re calling “Chicken and Cuts”
“I think it just shows how important it is. With Phoebe being the major hospital here and with Morehouse (School of Medicine) coming down to collaborate with them, it shows how important the community is to these institutions. And, I think that’s great that they are there. Partnering with Morehouse,” said David Phennise, Organizer, “Chicken and Cuts.”
To have the Morehouse School of Medicine at the south Albany church to provide screenings is going to be a valuable part of the experience.
“This is something that’s just been researched. Just genetic means of why the black community, under-served community, minority community is so prevalent to cancer just because of diet, exercise…” said Phennise.
But, as well, they’re giving people an opportunity to learn what they should be eating to lead a healthy life.
“And, we’re doing cancer screening and awareness. This event is going to be PSA and we’re going to do screenings, blood pressure checks, glucose checks for diabetics. Just all of those things that, you know, you want early detection on early recognition, so you can have early treatment,” said Phennise.
And… the Phoebe Health System is encouraging every family to get out on Saturday.
“Women bring your husbands. We want 50 to 100 men just to come out. Like I say, come. We’re giving out doing free haircuts. We’re giving out free chickens. We’re giving out free produce. It’s going to be a wonderful atmosphere…” said Phennise.
And… “Chicken and Cuts” will take place Saturday, October 12th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Rhema International Ministries at 1715 West Oakridge Road in Albany.
