Moultrie-Colquitt Co. Humane Society “Stuff the Van” of pet supplies for hurricane relief

MOULTRIE, Ga. – As Florida evacuees continue to ride out the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, one local group in Moultrie is helping not only the evacuees but their pets as well.

For Angie Livingston, her sister, and their 15-year-old dog “Briegh,” it’s been a rough few days as they left their home in Orlando.

“It’s very important. We have actually struggled to feed her recently. We home cook for her, but I think the stress of everything, she didn’t want to eat and she’s liking the Kibble lately. So, it’s kind of been a blessing to get her to keep eating,” said Angie Livingston, Orlando, Florida.

Dogs like “Briegh” are why the Moultrie-Colquitt County Humane Society set up at the campgrounds of Spence Field Thursday afternoon…

So… they could lend a hand to a few friends with four legs.

“Today, we came out to help with the relief efforts for the evacuees and their pets. We brought out some dog food. We brought out some dog treats and some toys to help with the evacuees and their pets,” said Dawn Blanton, Director, Moultrie-Colquitt County Humane Society.

For many of the evacuees, getting a helping hand from the local humane society is very much appreciate amid the chaos they’re seeing in the sunshine state.

“It means a lot. I really appreciate all the help we brought dog food, but, uh, there’s a lot of people who came up here, and just didn’t have time to pack all the stuff they needed,” said Kylie Dykes, Plant City, Florida.

“Thank you for the support and the welcome. And, for making the stressful situation more positive. We don’t know what we’re going to go back home to, but we’re going to go back with really strong, warm memories, and full tummies…” said Livingston.

While many of the evacuees here at spence field are dreading returning home to the devastation, they’re thankful that the community is giving them some control over the situation.

The city of Moultrie and Colquitt county are allowing evacuees to stay on the campgrounds of Spence Field at no charge.
