Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger holds election security event in Albany

ALBANY, Ga. – We’re less than 30 days from election day, and Georgia Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger was in Albany a week ahead of early voting to talk about the integrity of Georgia’s polling.

Raffensperger spoke on matters across the board, such as explaining what an election “health check” does to ensure a proper vote count.

“We’re going to see what all the choices are that are on the ballot. Then we’re going to run those through the scanners to make sure that they recorded accurately. Then we’re going to then check that also against the county’s election management system, their server, to make sure that we put in the disk that it actually then still records accurately,” said Brad Raffensperger, Ga. Sec. of State.

In the aftermath of the 2020 election, Raffensperger wanted to reassure the public about Georgia’s voter rolls.

“So, number one is for the absentee voting process, we’re now using photo I.D., voters driver’s license number. So, if you look at your driver’s license, that’s how we identify 99% of all voters when they show up to vote in person early or in person on election day, they show their driver’s license id, over 99% of all voters in Georgia have one,” said Raffensperger.

Raffensperger also touched on the voting logistics for several Georgia counties…

Specifically those still dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

“For example, over in Valdosta, Lowndes county, a couple of those areas, those precincts will have been moved to other locations. But, we’ll make sure that all the voters are notified of that,” said Raffensperger.

But… Raffensperger also wants to make sure that those casting their vote on November 5th don’t run into any trouble…

Trying to make sure no one is waiting over an hour.

“We think that’s really important for the voter experience. Who wants to be in a long line? But, also, when you think about what that also does, if you have lines moving very quickly, that just gives people a sense of confidence. These folks are very efficient at what they do…” said Raffensperger.

Despite the curveball thrown to parts of the state in the form of Hurricane Helene, Raffensperger is encouraging every Georgia resident to get out and vote.

Secretary Raffensperger says that if you live in one of the counties severely affected by Hurricane Helene, to visit the secretary of state’s website to see where your precinct has been moved to.
