Carlton Breast Health Center & Phoebe Cancer Center hosts annual Breast Cancer Support Group Walk & Luncheon

ALBANY, Ga. – Now, October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Phoebe Health System kicked off the observance Tuesday afternoon.

Survivors of breast cancer and their families showed up wearing pink in front of the hospital in downtown Albany for a celebration of hope.

Dr. Chirag Jani of Phoebe’s Cancer Center spoke with us shortly after the kickoff, touching on why it’s important for breast cancer survivors to continue lifting each other up in the face of adversity.

“Nothing is more fulfilling and gratifying to see that whole cancer journey when it comes to fruition and patients don’t have cancer and they’re cured. That’s the biggest deal for us… I’m a big believer in prevention is better than cure and getting a mammogram is preventing from getting cancer. So I would encourage all of you to do mammograms and regular cancer screenings,” said Dr. Chirag Jani, Medical Dir., Phoebe Cancer Center.

The Phoebe Health System is also continuing their October tradition of offering 50 free mammograms at both their main and Sumter county campuses.
