AAPHC’s Drive-Thru Health Fair set for Saturday, Oct. 5 in Albany
ALBANY, Ga. – The start of the fall means that Albany Area Primary Health Care (AAPHC) is gearing up for one of their biggest events of the year.
We met with Dr. Joycelyn Yates to talk about what they’re offering during this year’s drive-thru health expo.
“This is a time for Albany Area Primary Health Care to give back to the community. And, what we love to do a part of our “three c’s of community connection” is to give back and to give free health screenings to our general public here in southwest Georgia. It is a time for the general public to actually interact with our physicians…” said Dr. Joycelyn Yates, Chief Quality Officer, AAPHC.
They’ll be offering up plenty of services for 2024’s iteration like standard checks for blood pressure and flu shots…
But… this year, they’re adding on something new as well.
“But, it is actually slowly growing in interest of individuals in our particular area. I also want to partner with DPH to just to give more education around STD. It is really big. And, you’d be surprised how many people are very much interested in this particular screening,” said Dr. Yates.
The drive-thru health expo had originally been created as a need during COVID…
But… Dr. Yates believes that in the four years since, it’s been a great way of helping many in the public keep up with their health on an annual basis.
“Screening. When physicians can meet the patient really just in their car and have a good, comfortable conversation about their blood pressure reading and or A1C and then maybe giving them some education around it. It is a preventable thing that could happen with us, but I think it’s just really good education,” said Dr. Yates.
While they’ve had a couple hundred people come out in previous years, they’re hoping to see the turnout double on October 5th.
The drive-thru health expo will take place Saturday, October 5th from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Albany Exchange Club Fairgrounds.
