2 Albany firefighters critically injured in accident while attending funeral service in Worth Co.

SYLVESTER, Ga. – A funeral service ends in further tragedy as two first responders are in critical condition.

What was originally a memorial service for Worth County High School student Trenton Melton.

But… as they were attending the funeral service, two Albany firefighters were injured in a car accident in the parking lot at the church.

We’ve learned that the two firefighters are Albany Fire Department’s Fire Battalion Chief Ricky Thompson, and Fire Captain Danny Hancock.

The two of them were last listed in critical condition and were life-flighted to a Tallahassee hospital.

And… it was announced late this afternoon that Antioch Missionary Baptist Church here in Sylvester announced they’ll be holding a prayer service at 7 p.m. this evening allowing people to come and pray for those involved in this accident.

We offer our thoughts and prayers to the firefighters and their families.
