Albany Technical College launches new Critical Care Paramedic program
ALBANY, Ga. – Albany Technical College is getting set to roll out a new program for paramedics. One that will be the first of its kind in the state of Georgia.
The trade school announced Monday that they’ll be launching a new Critical Care Paramedic Program, geared towards advancing the skillset of paramedics into critical care specialties.
“We will be the first in the state of Georgia to offer the program through the technical college system. So, what this does is going to prepare a student to take the certifying exam at the critical care level or flight critical care paramedic level,” said Brandon “Ace” Kent, Paramedicine Instructor, Albany Technical College.
Kent tells us the program is meant for those who are already certified and nationally registered as paramedics…
And… goes into details about what the new program specifically entails.
“So, having a Critical Care Paramedic (CCP) licensure is very vital for Georgia moving forward. This would train some of our students for basic life support, advanced life support; some monitoring measures on the cardiac side…”said Kent.
Kent goes into detail about what the program will entail over the course of a single semester.
“Our program is going to be a one-semester program, consisting of 15 weeks of very didactic, and very heavy in a clinical aspect to get them fully ready to be in the field,” said Kent.
In just one week’s time since they opened registration, they’ve filled half of the available spaces in the program.
“We’re ecstatic about having this program, being the first in the state to do it. I’m sure with it being the initial one, everything is going to run smoothly, but we’re going to definitely learn from it, and do our best to prepare critical care paramedics for the field,” said Kent.
Kent says that there is still space available, though if you’re a paramedic interested to sign up as soon as possible.
You can apply through Albany Technical College’s website here: https://www.albanytech.edu/news/new-critical-care-paramedic-program
Applicants must have an Associate’s degree and be a nationally certified paramedic.
