Strickland returns: Colquitt County baseball hires new head coach
MOULTRIE, GA – South Georgia say hello to the 6th head coach in Colquitt County history… Ryan Strickland.
He is replacing Brandon Brock after two seasons, who would coach the Packers to a 26-34 record, but leading them to the state playoffs both years before resigning in March.
Strickland is no stranger to Moultrie though.
He was the assistant Coach from 2012-2015 before heading to Thomas County Central to be the YellowJackets skipper for the past 7 seasons, helping his team to a 141-86 record, and leading them to the Elite Eight of the 6A state playoffs this past season.
Now, he looks to bring his experience back to Packer Nation, hoping to lead them to their third state championship in school history.
“It feels great, like a homecoming,” Strickland said. “So many familiar faces out here and then reconnect with a lot of people and see the new faces and feel the excitement.”
His players are just as excited to see how the Strickland era is going to look.
“He made some good points. We need to get to work,” Jake Walker said. “We are a little behind and I think that’s he is going to make us better as a program.”
Speaking of programs, Strickland is 229 through and through. He played at Darton College in 2003, and also graduated from Valdosta State.
