Dougherty Co. General Primary Election races
ALBANY, Ga. – At every polling location across the city of Albany today, you can see just a myriad of signs for multiple races.
With Dougherty county residents casting their votes for the next Sheriff, the District Attorney’s Office, the Superior Court, and seats on the Dougherty County Commission to name a few.
And, we got a chance in the leadup to today’s primary to speak with the county board of elections about the local races, and of course the national ones as well.
Dougherty County Board of Elections Supervisor, Ginger Nickerson spoke about early voting and the impact she thinks it might have on those casting their ballot Tuesday.
“Unfortunately, for us, we’ve seen better numbers. That’s why we remain hopeful for election day. That there will be more individuals out. The numbers are also driven by the candidates and the names who appear on the ballot as well,” said Ginger Nickerson, Supervisor, Dougherty Co. Board of Elections.
With election security also being a major topic in recent years, Nickerson spoke about easing the public’s mind about the county’s measures.
“The process is definitely secure. We’re thankful to report in Dougherty county that we didn’t have any of the incidents that our sister counties have encountered, unfortunately. But, I think that the process is definitely secure. You come in, you show your identification, you have several forms of ID acceptable by law…” said Nickerson.
If you haven’t gotten a chance to get out and vote yet, you’ll still have time as the polls close at 7 p.m.
We’ll have results from Dougherty county Wednesday.
