Albany intersection to briefly close, GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team to investigate fatal crash

ALBANY, Ga. – The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) will be taking a deeper look into a downtown Albany crash from late last week.

CBS 44’s Brian Roche joins us at the intersection where the crash took place with the latest updates.

Following a collision between an on-duty Albany Police cruiser and a Crisp county school bus here at the intersection of North Jefferson Street and 7th Avenue, the state patrol is looking for answers.

The bus, which had been driving Crisp students to a track meet in Albany collided with an Albany cruiser that was enroute to a burglary in progress.

The crash also ended up killing a pedestrian who was in his late 60s according to investigators on site. We’ve since found out the pedestrian has passed away from his injury.

This is prompting the state patrol to further investigate the crash site and according to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) they’ll be closing off surrounding roads Wednesday morning.

While investigations are set to only take two hours, this will be impacting Albany traffic Wednesday morning.

GDOT personnel will be on site to help redirect traffic Wednesday morning.
