Phoebe Health System hosts Celebrating Nurses Ceremony

ALBANY, Ga. – The Phoebe Health System took time Wednesday morning to honor their nursing staff as part of Nurses Week. And… this includes a tradition known as the Blessing of the Hands.

The Blessing of the Hands, as part of National Nurses Week is meant to highlight all they do to help ease patients and their families.

“Blessing of the Hands is a way to again, show appreciation to our nurses, but really it’s about blessing their hands for that work that they do to take great care of our patients,” said Maureen Jackson, Chief Nursing Officer, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

And… being a nurse is certainly not an easy job.

Just ask Quintaries Edwards.

He’s wanted to be a nurse because of his family…

“Growing up, my mom was a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) for a number of years, and I saw her care for her patients. In 2022, I found out my son had a diagnosis, so that pushed me forward in my career and my education,” said Quintaries Edwards, RN, Registered Nurse, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

And… while nobody becomes a nurse for any of the glory, the passion is certainly recognized among the hospital staff.

“It’s an honor. I love what I do, I love to care for my patients. And, if I was in any type of situation where I needed someone to care for me, I would want the best care possible. So, it’s really and honor to be honored on this day, during nursing week…” said Edwards.

“Our nurses certainly make a difference. It’s not just the great clinical care they give. It’s that kindness and compassion that they bestow to our patients and their families,” said Jackson.

Being a nurse is certainly a thankless job, and even though the work is never done, it’s a nice show of respect for the passion these nurses put into their work.

Phoebe nurses were also given a presentation by the Southwest Georgia Nurse Honor Guard.
