Tift Co. High School alumni set to perform in special farewell show choir performance honoring retiring choral director
TIFTON, Ga. – Tift County High School alumni unite for a special performance honoring their retiring teacher.
JJ Jackson, along with Tift County alumni, are preparing to deliver a stellar performance in honor of Tift County High School Choral Director, Mr. Scott Rains. This performance signifies a pivotal moment, as Scott Rains will be participating in his final concert.
“The choreography that we’re doing today for this performance is actually from Mike Weaver and Jamie McMahon. And so we’re combining those choreographies to do this alumni show for Scott Rains, because this is his final year at Tift County High School and we are so sad to see him go. But, we also want to praise him by showing off the work that he’s done it actually started in the conversation that me and Danyale Holloway, the choral director here at Northeast Middle School, we were on our way to a show car competition and we were actually discussing, “okay, this is Mr. Rains’ final year. We ought to do something.” and she suggested that we come up with an alumni show. And, every year the alumni would like to come up in and dance again. We finally got a chance ten years later to actually come together and do this for Mr. Rains,” said JJ Jackson, Tift County Choral Department Choreographer.
The upcoming choir performance will feature alumni from 2015 to 2023, presenting a repertoire of songs that Mr. Rains himself has directed throughout his career. Selections including “Footloose,” “Proud Mary,” “I’m Every Woman,” “Cadillac Car,” and more.
JJ Jackson, Tift County Choral Department Choreographer, along with other alumni, reflect on the profound impact Mr. Rains has had on their lives and Tift County High School.
“It’s been a lot of fun getting to come back and see people that you haven’t seen in many years. Having graduated in 2016, this is a time when I get to come back and see a lot of people that I haven’t seen since I graduated. Mr. Rains was such a blessing to the Tift County School System. When he came in and he just completely changed the show choir field as it is and brought us an experience that we would have never had without him. Honestly, one of the things that I miss about high school, that I don’t get to do now, is show choir. So, getting to come back and do this now is a lot of fun. But, now as an educator, I see the fun that you can have with kids and he just really instilled in me a lot of passion for kids and learning. This is something that I just really have a passion for and miss because of him,” said Kaitlin Tucker, Tift County High School Alumni.
“Scott rains has really, really been a big impact on not only my career but my life, because when I first met Mr. Rains, Mr. Rains took me in. When I graduated, at our show choir showcase, I actually won the director’s award. Meaning I was handpicked by Mr. Rains. Just getting to know Mr. Rains, I mean, throughout the years, I’ll text him every now and then like, “hey, Mr. Rains, how are you? Just to let you know I’m still thinking about you.” so when I got word that, “hey, alumni need to come back and we want to do something for Mr. Rains.” all I could think was, all Scott rains has done for me, how can I tell him no when it comes down to doing this. So when I heard Scott Rains, I dropped everything,” said Seth Gainer, Tift County Alumni.
The special farewell performance will take place at the Tift County High School Performing Arts Center on Friday, May 3rd. Doors will open at 6 PM, with admission priced at $7.
