3 puppies and hundreds in donations stolen during Albany Humane Society break-in
ALBANY, Ga. – The Albany Humane Society is looking for answers, following a break-in late Tuesday night. One where the suspect made off with donation money and three puppies.
That was the scene Tuesday night as the Albany Humane Society’s shelter was broken in to.
Director, Payton Jarrell says that just around 48 hours later, the humane society is still wondering why someone would break in and steal money from a non-profit…
Let alone puppies.
“It’s very unfortunate. We’re very heartbroken over what has happened. We really don’t care about anything else that’s happened. Our main concern is that these puppies are back in Albany Humane [Center]’s care where they can be tended too,” said Payton Jerrell, director, Albany Humane Society.
According to the Albany Humane Society, the break-in happened late Tuesday night.
These were the three pups that were taken during the break-in.
They’re still trying to figure out why someone would even think about doing this.
“We’re not sure if maybe they had an adoption application and wanted to take them anyways, or were walking through the shelter one day and thought ‘hey we’re gonna use these puppies for breeding, fighting, etc.’ there’s no telling. Or, they could’ve possibly got them just to turn them around and sell them to make money,” said Jarrell.
Jarrell tells us that they’ve been in touch with other humane societies being broken in to, but none have ever had the actual animals stolen.
And, it could be a danger to the puppies themselves.
“These are young puppies. They’re still going through vaccines, dewormer, etc. They need to be tended to,” said Jarrell.
And, as long as those puppies are out there, there’s an air of concern around the humane society.
“We’re really confused, and upset that not only did they take money that was supposed to go towards these animals’ care, but now they have three innocent lives, and we don’t know where they are,” said Jarrell.
While the Albany Police Department (APD) is handling investigation of the theft, the humane society is hoping for the safe return of the pups more than anything else.
The dog training group, Revolutionary Canine is partnering with the humane society and offering a $500 reward for the puppies’ safe return.
Here are the photos of the stolen puppies. Please remain vigilant and keep an eye out for them.
