Phoebe accepting nominations for Lemuel Griffin Community Service Award
ALBANY, Ga. – The Phoebe Health System is once again looking to honor the biggest volunteers in the community. And, it’s being done in honor of a man whose name was synonymous with the health system as well as giving back.
The man in question is Lemuel Griffin, who was the longtime director of the Phoebe Board of Directors.
And, as Phoebe CEO Scott Steiner says, he also made it a point to improve his community.
“Mr. Lem was so involved in key components of the community. Whether it was the Boys Scouts, the Salvation Army, many other organizations throughout the community. And, what you knew about Mr. Griffin is that he was always a giver. He never asked for anything in return,” said Scott Steiner, CEO, Phoebe Health System.
That’s why, to honor his legacy, the Phoebe Health System created the Lemuel Griffin Community Service Award in 2023 to highlight those with the same goal of bettering the southwest Georgia community, and why they’re continuing it this year…
With the full support of the Griffin family as they see people follow in Lemuel’s footsteps.
“No one misses Lem more than his family. And, we certainly do miss him as well here. But, it’s such a great way to honor his legacy and you can see the look on their faces, it brings them joy to see that he is still remembered to this day and he’s still honored,” said Steiner.
The recipient of the award will also receive a ten thousand dollar donation to the non-profit of their choice…
With last year’s recipient, Emily Jean McAfee donating it to the Flint Riverquarium.
Though the recognition or the money certainly isn’t why people are helping to improve their community.
“I think what we’re trying to highlight is that selflessness. People don’t do these things and get involved and sacrifice, because they want that recognition. They do it because of their love for that cause or their community. And, that’s who we’re looking for in nominees,” said Steiner.
And, the Phoebe Health System wants anyone who knows a person whose trying to make a difference in the community should sign up.
Nominations will be accepted by the Phoebe Health System through May 31, 2024 and may be submitted online at www.phoebehealth.com/lemgriffinaward. The recipient will be chosen by a panel of Phoebe professionals and community leaders and will be honored at a reception later this year.
