City Commissioner Young meets with businesses owners to make plans for Harlem Renaissance Project
ALBANY, Ga. – Albany City Commissioner, Demetrius Young is meeting with south Albany business owners Tuesday evening to talk about business plans for the Harlem Renaissance Project.
The city commissioner says that Tuesday evening’s update meeting is open to all business owners…
And, to remind them that the revitalization project is still on the table.
“And, it’s pretty much going to tell them what the city plans to do, and get some of their ideas to collaborate with us on streetscape, alley paving, and different beautification things the city is going to be endeavoring in in the next budget cycle,” said Commissioner Demetrius Young, Ward 6, City of Albany.
We met with Commissioner Young several months ago as he surveyed the Harlem District.
And, the point of Tuesday night’s meeting is to let the public have their voices be heard on the revitalization efforts.
“This not just a city project, it’s not just a project about Mount Zion. It’s about the entire community. Residents, business owners, other property owners. And, we’re going to make that available. So, we’re trying to reach out to and engage everybody in this much needed process and revitalization plan for the entire city. And, especially downtown Albany,” said Commissioner Young.
And, while the city and the Harlem group are still working on getting funding from the state, having public opinion will be vital towards shaping the project.
“What we’re looking to do is inform everybody of any opportunities of any resource available, because we want the whole community to be involved in the revitalization of Harlem,” said Commissioner Young.
Commissioner Young says that they hope the next step in the timeline wont be more than a month away, and that this year’s city budget meeting will play a big role in the overall timeframe of the project.
Commissioner Young tells us the city is projecting the funding for the revitalization project to be around $16,000,000 dollars.
