Albany Area Chamber’s 66th Annual Star Student Luncheon

ALBANY, Ga. – The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a celebratory lunch event highlighting the achievements of high school seniors.

The Flint Community Bank and SRJ Architects, Inc. are proud sponsors of the Albany Area Chamber’s 66th Annual Star Student Luncheon, an event honoring the exemplary accomplishments of Dougherty county’s top high school seniors.

“This is so important, because these students have worked so hard to be where they are. This is a statewide program. There’s the local competition, the regional competition and ultimately there is a state winner. Today’s students are our workforce of the future, which is why the Albany Area Chamber has placed such an emphasis on talent development, particularly at the K-12, to ensure we’re building that workforce a modern adaptive talent pool that will support our employers. Not just our educators are here, and family celebrating our students, but the business community is here, because that employer education connection is so critical,” said Bárbara Rivera Holmes, President & CEO, Albany Area Chamber of Commerce.

The educators who left a profound impact on the Star students’ academic trajectory were present and honored as well.

Bárbara Rivera Holmes, President and CEO of the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce, highlights the pivotal role of educators in academia.

“Educators are integral. They’re foundational to our students, not just academically, but we know that they’re mentors and coaches and empowerers. The beauty about this star student teacher luncheon is that it recognizes students for performing above average academically, but it also just recognizes the incredible value of the support system, specifically the teachers. But, we also recognize the parents and the grandparents and the aunts and uncles, the full scope of people,” she said.

Bárbara Rivera Holmes extends a message to all students within the Albany community.

“We’re very proud of our Star students and star teachers today, but we appreciate all of our students and all of our teachers for what they do. I encourage all of our students to continue their learning wherever they are at whatever stage. Go all the way through, be a lifelong learner,” she said.
