APD Chief Persley provides update on Shell gas station fatal shooting, ‘Keyvon loved his family to the moon and back’: Family launches GoFundMe fundraiser

ALBANY, Ga. – On February 9, officers responded to the Shell gas station located at 2824 Old Dawson Road around 4:28 p.m. following reports of a shooting.

Shortly after, Mr. Hardy was transported to the hospital. Cameron Jackson, 23, arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound. He was treated for his injuries at the hospital. During the course of the investigation, investigators identified a third person who was involved, Aaron Edwards III, whose 24,” said Chief Michael Persley, Chief of Police, Albany Police Department.

The suspects implicated in the fatal shooting incident have been officially charged with murder.

“As the investigation went on, Cameron Jackson was later transported to the Dougherty County Jail on the charge of murder. Warrants were taken for the arrest of Aaron Edwards III, and he turned himself in later that night. Both men are being charged of murder with more charges pending in this case,” said Chief Persley.

Among those impacted by the tragic incident is Cerissa Barber, mother of Keyvon Hardy, who has yet to see her son since his identification. Chief Persley extends a message to Albany community members affected by the incident.

“To the average community member here in Albany who goes about his or her daily business without ever being exposed to that. You know, I apologize. I’m sorry that anyone has to experience that and regardless of what side of town it occurred on. People who do not value the sanctity of life, who do not have respect for other people and feel as though the first thing they have to do is go pick up the gun, then that’s going to hurt us. That’s going to continue to hurt us and is going to continue to harm us. So start grabbing these people, grabbing them at a very early age, and try to correct them, put them on a better path then where they’re at,” said Chief Persley.

Keyvon’s family has established a GoFundMe page to cover memorial expenses.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the family and those affected by this tragedy.
