“It has been almost five years since we’ve done our last Turkey Shoot. So, we’re really excited to bring this event back. It was really well received and we’re just happy to get back into business. You know, everything kind of slowed down with COVID. We’re happy to be back doing community events and excited to bring the Turkey Shoot back. It’s a great community event, it’s family friendly,” said Ashley Miller, Ashburn-Turner Co. Chamber of Commerce Executive Director.

Participants are warmly invited to partake in an evening of festivities, featuring a bonfire and complimentary s’mores, with an added opportunity to win a cash prize.

“This also helps us as much as it helps Ashburn-Turner County Chamber of Commerce,” said Richard Purvis, Ashburn Director of Public Safety.

It gets us out here with some citizens throughout Turner county and lets us interact with them in a little bit different manner.

This competition transcends mere sharpshooting… It emphasizes giving back to the community. All earnings generated will directly support the growth and enhancement of local businesses and community development.

“We do little things here and there, and I think that’s what counts and that’s what’s going to help us throughout our journey. We cannot do what we do by ourselves. We have to have help through the community and through partnerships throughout the way,” said Richard Purvis, Ashburn Director of Public Safety.

“Especially in smaller communities like Ashburn, Sycamore, Turner county, I think there’s 8000 people in the whole county, and that’s included in the cities. So we need to help one another and know and interact differently than you would and say a bigger city, New York, Chicago, places like that. It’s harder for law enforcement to interact in a positive way, and has been on a real small scale. Here we can do it on a larger scale because we are smaller,” said William Ryder, Sycamore Police Chief.
