Crisp Co. Sheriff’s Office urges residents to lock their vehicles after several break-ins

CORDELE, Ga. – Multiple instances of unauthorized entry into unlocked vehicles have been reported in the area of Crisp Street and South 12th Street.

Four entering autos were reported in the area of Crisp Street and South 12th Street. In all cases, the vehicles were unlocked.

“And, I think it’s a crime of opportunity. Because, one, it’s happening in close to a populated area. Two, they’re going to unlock vehicles for the most part out of the 30 that we’ve had since January of 2023. 24 of them have been unlocked whenever they’ve approached those vehicles. And, so, it’s an easy pick. People leave valuables in cars. People leave weapons in cars. In the process they’re going to take your I.D., they’re going to take your pocketbook. If you’ve left it in there, a lot of times we’ll find those pocketbooks and some of those IDs and in close proximity to where they broke into the automobile at,” said Sheriff Billy Hancock, Crisp Co. Sheriff’s Office.

“So, I think, you know, these are crimes that we need help from the citizens on. We need them to make sure at night they lock their vehicles. And, prior to locking your vehicles, take your valuables out. Don’t leave anything in plain sight. We have websites where you can report. We have a, “See something, Say something,” tip line (229) 322-8891 you can use. A homeowner, if you hear a suspicious noise during the night, call 911, that’s what we’re for,” said Sheriff Billy Hancock, Crisp Co. Sheriff’s Office.
