Colquitt Regional celebrates 17th ‘A’ safety grade
MOULTRIE, Ga. – Colquitt Regional Medical Center has once again proven its commitment to safety and excellence in healthcare by receiving its 17th “A” hospital safety grade.
Colquitt Regional has achieved its 17th “A” hospital safety grade, as designated by the Leapfrog – a national non-profit organization committed to upholding patient safety standards in both hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers.
“Our focus on quality care starts at the top from our Board of Directors, which are community leaders to our amazing administrative team, to our nursing leaders, to our physician leaders. Really, every team member in the organization is dedicated to our community and making sure that our hospital is providing the best quality care for our patients,” said Dr. Michael Brown, Chief Medical Officer.
The Leapfrog Group assesses general hospitals nationwide using a comprehensive set of over 30 performance measures, encompassing errors, accidents, injuries, infections, and preventative systems, to assign grades ranging from an “A” to a “F.”
Chief Executive Officer of Colquitt Regional, Jimmy Lee Matney, discusses the profound implications of this achievement on the community and the patients who depend on Colquitt Regional.
“I think patients have begun to expect that the care they get here is safe, appropriate, and the outcomes are what were expected. So I think after getting a’s and top scores in the nation for 17 times, it’s expected, and I would argue that every hospital ought to have the same environment. People trust their lives. They trust their loved ones to come to the hospital and they don’t expect to be harmed. So I think that our community depends on it, but I think it should be the way in every hospital and I think we owe it to the public to fix it,” said Jimmy Lee Matney, Chief Executive Officer.
Dr. Michael Brown, Chief Medical Officer and Pulmonary Critical Care Physician at Colquitt Regional, sheds light on the practices that have played a crucial role in the hospital’s attainment of safety excellence.
“We look at sepsis review, so we look at all of our sepsis cases making sure that we’re following the guidelines to make sure that we are giving the best chance for anyone with severe illness to survive that hospitalization. We look at our readmissions and see how patients who are vulnerable, who are very ill and making sure as they come out of the hospital that we’re getting them the opportunity to make sure that they have every resource that they need to improve clinically,” said Dr. Brown.
