“My journey with breast cancer is… I am a five-year cancer survivor. Which, it started when I turned 59, and now I am 64. I had 33 rounds of radiation and I had eight rounds of chemo. My skin died, and then I was able to see my ribs, my white ribs. Then, three weeks later, I had surgery, and then that’s when I went to do my chemo and my radiation. We need to get to know our own body, because if anything is going on with our body, we should know. If you know your body, and something is wrong, go get a second opinion,” said Iris Allison Hawthorne, owner, Kindness Kure, Inc.

Hawthorne utilized her personal experience and triumph over breast cancer as a source of motivation to inspire and assist others.

This transformative journey culminated in the establishment of Kindness Kure, Inc., a dedicated organization with the mission of offering solace to survivors and demonstrating that they are not alone in their battle.

“What we do is go out to the hedges and highways and let people know that they can live and not die, but declare the works of the Lord. We make bags, if you know of anybody that is going through cancer, or that is in the hospital, let me know, and I can make them goody bags. I do cancer walks; we have our cancer walk every end of September. I am getting ready to have a survivors group every month. Cancer is not just in October. We cram everything up in October, and we are leaving out all these other months; but cancer is twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and 12 months of the year,” said Hawthorne.

This event served as a catalyst for both men and women, promoting the importance of routine health checkups, adopting healthy dietary habits, and taking the necessary steps to safeguard their mental and physical well-being.
