Albany man arrested, charged with aggravated assault after he ‘accidentally’ set his wife on fire
ALBANY, Ga. – We begin this evening with a shocking incident in Albany, as an elderly woman’s medical crisis took a terrifying turn…
At 7:39 p.m. Tuesday evening, officers responded to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, where 67-year-old Amanda Jenkins was admitted with 25% lower extremity burns.
Dougherty EMS had initially transported her from her residence on Bobbitt Drive. Jenkins was unresponsive upon arrival.
At her residence, officers met 64-year-old Henry Hardwick, Ms. Jenkins’ husband, who was later taken in for questioning.
It was revealed that Hardwick ‘accidentally’ set Jenkins on fire while applying rubbing alcohol to alleviate her multiple sclerosis (MS)-related discomfort.
He confessed to panicking and not seeking help. This incident occurred on Sunday, October 22, and went unnoticed until two days later when Jenkins’ daughter found her in dire need of medical attention. Jenkins was treated at the Augusta Burn Unit.
Henry Hardwick was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and taken to the Dougherty County Jail. More charges may follow as the investigation progresses.
