Albany Recreation & Parks hosts first edition of ‘From Earth to Table’ series Harvest Delight nurturing health & wellness

ALBANY, Ga. – Get ready to savor the flavor of health and wellness! Albany Recreation and Parks Department celebrated nature’s bounty with their Harvest Delight event.

Tuesday afternoon, the Albany Recreation and Parks Department hosted their Harvest Delight event at the JC Odom Jr. Fitness and Wellness Center. This event marks the inaugural installment of the ‘From Earth to Table’ series.

“We are actually having kind of the reviving of our garden, our community garden. Our master gardener, Linda Harris, is doing a community course to let the community members know, how and what it takes to bring the garden back up into full bloom as the new season approaches,” said Bert Bacon, Albany Recreation & Parks Athletic Manager.

During the fruitful workshop, participants will gain valuable insight into the art of health-conscious meal preparation, the selection of nutritious fruits and vegetables, and the environmental advantages associated with fresh gardening practices.

“Food is becoming a strong point for a lot of our health issues. The more we can control what we intake, the better off we can be. You can’t actually say what your food from the store has been through to get to that point. But, the sweet potatoes that we harvested today, you know exactly where they came from, you know exactly where they are going, to your table. So, that’s the whole push behind this program is, ‘from soil to salad,’ ‘from the dirt to dinner.’ it’s really about us getting back to learning how to do dinner and meals for ourselves from the ground,” said Bert Bacon, Albany Recreation & Parks Athletic Manager.
