Two women work to establish sober living home ‘Motif’ in Albany
ALBANY, Ga. – A group of women here at Hope City United Church here in Albany are taking the first towards a new non-profit. A sober living home aimed at helping women who’ve succumbed to addiction.
Meet Maureen “Mo” Taylor and Tiffany Beckham, two of the women who founded Motif.
And, they’ve had plans for the non-profit in the works for some time before officially announcing it on Facebook earlier in September.
“We had talked about it around a year ago. That we wanted to give back. We wanted to give back that which was freely given to us and help other women. And, there’s a need here in Albany. And, our goal is to take women out of treatment and provide them the next step…” said Maureen “Mo” Taylor, President, Motif Albany.
And, they wanted to start a program for women to give those struggling with addiction the same opportunity that the two of them have, as they’ve both been clean for more than five years.
“It’s very important for us to give back what was given to us as “Mo” was saying. And, we see the need here in Albany with girls getting turned away all the time. And, we just want to be another option out there to help women,” said Tiffany Beckham, Vice President, Motif Albany.
Both “Mo” and Tiffany know they’re fortunate to be where they are in their own recovery, and they understand that there are some women who aren’t able to get that opportunity.
“Not everybody gets sober. There are so many women out there who may never make it into the rooms of recovery, or have these options, but if we have them to offer, then it makes it easier for them to find their way…” said Maureen “Mo” Taylor, President, Motif Albany.
As Motif now looks for a house that they can base the sober living facility out of…
“Right now, there’s just not much here, and that’s why we feel God has put it on our hearts to move forward with this,” said Tiffany Beckham, Vice President, Motif Albany.
“We didn’t get sober to keep it to ourselves, and I don’t believe that’s what God wants us to do, and the recovery community. We’re always told, ‘you can’t keep it, unless you give it away,” said Maureen “Mo” Taylor, President, Motif Albany.
As they continue to get Motif off the ground both “Mo” and Tiffany are optimistic about giving local women a new lease on life.
