Cordele Fire Dept. holds push-in ceremony for new fire truck
CORDELE, Ga. – It’s big, it’s red and it’s going to save more lives as the Cordele Fire Department pushes in a new fire truck that will quite literally reach new heights.
“It’s been a long process it feels great, it was much needed,” said Chief Todd Alligood, Cordele Fire Chief.
The old fire truck couldn’t reach the tallest buildings in Cordele, but this one now can.
“The biggest thing is it’s got a bigger ladder it’s a 75 ft ladder, iso requires us to have a ladder that’s taller than our tallest building,” said Chief Alligood.
Getting this new fire engine wasn’t easy.
“We had to move quickly because it takes about 2-3 years for a new fire truck, Chief Alligood was hired came on board in April, and I said this is what we have going on and we’re in need of a fire truck,” said Angela Redding, Cordele City Manager.
Firefighters can now do more with this new truck.
“We have more capabilities now to mitigate incidents to do rescues from taller areas, so it just gives us better options,” said Chief Alligood.
Firefighters at the station couldn’t wait to get their hands on the new truck.
“I called this week to check on them, it’s a brand new truck and they said well we’re out waxing it and polishing the chrome on a brand new trucks that’s how excited they are,” said Chief Alligood.
Cordele City Manger Angela Redding tells me this is only the beginning of equipment improvements in Cordele.
“Not only with the ladder truck but there are more things in store new police vehicles, more needs that this community more needs this community has been asking for,” said Redding.
