Tifton man charged following body of missing woman found
(TIFTON, GA) – It was on Sussex Drive over the weekend, where 24 year old, Laura Aguirre was found buried in a shallow grave in her own backyard. Now law enforcement are investigating the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and death.
“At this point, investigators are still talking to people, and still putting together evidence for things that they need,” says Tifton Police Chief, Steve Hyman, on the Aguirre murder case and arrest of 24 year old Matthew Howard in connection to her death
Howard is charged with felony murder.
Chief Hyman says Howard hadn’t had any major prior arrests.
He tells us, “His records show that he has had a couple of misdemeanor arrests in the past, but nothing to do with anything like this.”
Hyman says his department is cooperating with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and that Tifton police have been working nonstop since finding Aguirre’s shallow grave.
“…When it comes time to go to court, when it comes time to prosecute, when it comes time to present evidence, our evidence and what we present is in order to where the court will accept it, and then we can get justice for Laura,” says Chief Hyman.
The Tifton Police Department is still asking the community for any information surrounding Aguirre’s death; you can contact the Tifton Police at (229) 382-3132.
