9-year-old girl struck by car, charges pending in hit & run incident

ALBANY, Ga. – On Monday, Albany Police officers responded to the 1500 block of North Maple Street after a 9-year-old girl was struck by a 2019 Nissan Sentra. The vehicle fled the scene.

Witnesses stated a group of children were crossing the road when the 7-year-old ran into the road and was struck. The driver of the vehicle, a 16-year-old female, later returned to the scene after she went home and told the owner what happened.

Charges are pending for the driver. The condition of the pedestrian is extremely severe at this time and updates will be provided once new information becomes available.

In the initial press release sent directly to us at 8:05 am Tuesday, by the APD, it was reported to be a 7-year old. According to a new press release it was indeed a 9-year-old. We have corrected.
