CBS 44 Weather Authority Forecast: June 19, 2023

A brief break in high chances...

After more storms on this Juneteenth, a welcomed brief break in the high rain chances comes tomorrow. Widely scattered showers and thunderstorms, but not a complete washout, and actually some peeks of sunshine.  That changes on Wednesday with a better coverage of showers and thunderstorms. Towards the end of the week we’ll see our typical summertime thunderstorms producing heavy rainfall. An additional 1″-3″ of rainfall in most areas with some receiving 3″-5″. That’s on top of what has already fallen this month where most areas have surpassed or doubled their average June monthly rainfall totals. This is really a cause for concern given the antecedent wet conditions and saturated soils. This may aggravate the flooding situation and river flooding may become at least a minor problem. Tropical Storm Bret has been named in the central Atlantic. Forecast shows Bret reaching hurricane intensity as it approaches the Lesser Antilles by the end of the week-early part of the weekend. Where it goes after that, nobody knows, but definitely something to keep a close eye on!
