Boys and Girls Club of Albany partners with Inbound Gymnastics

ALBANY, Ga – For the past 12 weeks, 30 young girls have been FLIPPING, jumping, balancing and tumbling…preparing for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Albany’s first ever, 2023 Gymnastics Showcase.
“I took this job in order to give the kids at the Albany boys and girls club an opportunity to do different sports. Sports that they might not necessarily have access to and gymnastics was one of those sports that I saw,” said Willie Vails, Director of Athletics, BGCA
This program introduces a potential new passion for kids in Albany…redirecting their after school time to something positive has helped many build confidence.
“The first day they walked in they were absolutely amazed. When they looked and they saw the equipment and the so on and so forth and the first thing they said was “Mr. Willie I can’t do that” I told them “you guys are going to be doing that one of these days” so it was very important for me to bring them to this location. To be able to experience in its fullest effect. As far as confidence, and letting them know growth comes from this and showing them competitive spirit, it’s absolutely necessary for our kids these days,” said Vails.
During the showcase, participants showed off their new skills from bar basics, balance beam, springboard and flexibility and we’re awarded medals at the end…
Vails overall goal is to see the number of both male and female participants grow so the club can continue making an impact through athletics.
“I want to see it where 60 to 70 girls are participating. Again, I’m saying girls, but I’m not taking away from boys. This is for boys as well. It just so happened 30 girls showed the most interest… I look forward to continuing the work I do and exposing the kids at Albany Boys and Girls Clubs to sports they would not normally participate in,” said Vails.
