LCSS sees rise in COVID-19 quarantine numbers
(LEESBURG, GA) – It’s been a busy November for Lee County Schools, as they’ve seen their quarantine numbers for COVID-19 significantly increase; from around 30 quarantines towards the end of October to around 190.
School System Nursing Coordinator, Shannon Weeks tells us, “We actually saw the biggest bump right before Halloween. So it wasn’t even after trick-or-treating or Halloween parties or anything like that. We saw this going up the Thursday prior to.”
Weeks believes that with the holiday, people wanted a chance to return to a sense of normalcy.
She says, “I think people are just starting to go back to their lives a little bit more. We haven’t seen as many cases in the community, so i think it makes people feel a little safer to have get-togethers with their friends and family outside of their households.”
While the numbers have sloped off to around 90 students and faculty quarantined with only three positive cases remaining, the school system is staying alert.
This includes regularly conducting contact tracing.
“We’ll continue the same procedures we have which includes random temperature and symptom checking. And whenever we have a positive we’ll do strict contact tracing, according cdc guidelines so we can identify close contacts and get them under quarantine for 14 days,” says Weeks.
