(LEESBURG, GA) – Lee County is just the latest in Southwest Georgia to see a decline in their COVID-19 numbers.

For Superintendent, Dr Jason Miller, something like this in a hotbed region like Southwest Georgia has been no small feat.

Dr Miller tells us, “I think our families have made really good decisions when a child has not been feeling well, or an employee in our system. They’ve taken the precaution of staying home and making sure that they’re okay.”

In the last 25 school days alone, the Lee County School System has registered more than 125,000 temperature checks across all students and faculty in the school system.

With the county now seeing lower trends of COVID-19 cases, they’ve been able to ease up on these temperature checks.

“We’ll continue temperature checks on Monday and Thursday, as opposed to Monday through Friday. And of course, our nurses will make random temperature checks and they certainly check everyone who comes to see them in the nurses office,” says Dr. Miller.

While Lee County nurses are continuing to monitor for COVID-19 among the students and faculty, they’re also keeping an eye out for illnesses that regularly pop up around this time of year.

Dr Miller says. “We’ve had the usual instances of sicknesses that we see every school year; stomach bug, strep throat, flu, and we’re dealing with those as well as COVID.”

The Lee County School System’s COVID-19 numbers are available on the school district’s website.
